Privacy Policy
Your eyes, your device, your data.

The short version.
- Your camera feed is processed on your device. We never see, store or upload it.
- There are no accounts, no sign-in and no advertising.
- The apps send anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to Google Firebase so we can see which conditions people explore and fix problems. Nothing in them identifies you.
- We never sell data, and we never share it for advertising.
Who we are
As I See It is an educational project that simulates eye conditions so that patients, families, teachers and clinicians can understand what vision loss looks like. It is run from Nova Scotia, Canada. Questions about this policy go to harry@asiseeit.ca.
The camera
The apps need camera access to work. Every frame is filtered on your phone's own processor and shown back to you; frames are never recorded by us, never sent to a server and never shared with anyone. When you tap the capture button, the photo or video is saved to your own photo library on your device, under your control, and nowhere else. Sharing it is your choice, through your phone's normal share sheet.
What we collect, and why
We designed the apps to work without knowing who you are. What does leave your device is small and anonymous:

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, precise location, health records, photos or videos. Searches inside the app are counted, not stored.
What we never do
- Sell or rent data to anyone
- Use advertising networks, ad tracking or social-media trackers
- Build a profile of you or link your usage to your identity
- Ask for an account or a sign-in
- Use the simulations for diagnosis; the apps are educational only
Your choices
- Notifications: turn them off in your phone's settings at any time; the token stops being used.
- Camera: revoke camera permission in your phone's settings; the app will explain what it needs and nothing else is affected.
- Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device. Because our statistics are anonymous, there is no account to delete, but you can email us and we will remove any notification record that matches the details you give us.
Snapchat lenses and TikTok effects
Our lenses on Snapchat and effects on TikTok run entirely inside those apps. Snap and TikTok control what happens to your camera and any Snaps or videos you make; their own privacy policies apply. We receive only aggregate statistics from them, such as how many people used a lens and in which countries, and never anything about an individual.
This website
asiseeit.ca uses Google Analytics, through Firebase, to count visits and see which pages are read. No advertising features are enabled. If you use the contact form, the name, email address and message you enter are stored in Google Firebase and emailed to us so we can reply. We keep contact messages until the conversation is finished and delete them on request.
Service providers
Apart from Apple and Google as the app stores, the only company that processes data for us is Google, through Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging and Firestore) and Google Analytics. Google processes it on our behalf under its Firebase privacy terms. Data is encrypted in transit and stored on Google's servers, which may be outside Canada.
Children
As I See It is suitable for schools and families. We knowingly collect no personal information from anyone, including children; the anonymous statistics described above are the same for every user and are never used to identify or profile anyone.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top of this page and, for anything that affects what we collect, we say so in the app's release notes. This version, September 2026, replaces the January 2025 policy and adds the description of analytics, crash reporting, notifications, the website contact form and the Snapchat and TikTok versions.
